FINAL PRELIMINARY TASK

Me and charley decided to film another preliminary task using the schools camera and facilities. Our teacher Craig acted in our 20-30 seconds film with me. Just like our pre preliminary task we had to film someone walking towards a door, through the door and having a conversation with someone else. As a pair Charley and I decided who felt more comfortable in which jobs therefore we decided that I would be the actress and she would be on camera. We edited our work together and worked together on the script, shot plans and the story board. As it was only two of us we found it really easy to work together. We have finished the final edits and our task should be up very soon.

Opening sequences

PHONE BOOTH- MYSTERY THRILLER
The opening title sequence of Phone Booth is a different type of opening sequences, as if has no dialogue or actors in the credits. In most opening title sequences the titles run past the actors, where as in this opening title sequence the titles jump out from the screen, the titles move in beat with the sharp music. The title sequence is very graphic, all computerized. The music has been created; it has a creepy hit to it as well as a very cool beat. Which kind of give the audience the impression that the movie is mysterious? The background is very simple with a neutral faded color and black bold titles. Making the music keep the audience more interested.

Superbad -Comedy
Straight from the beginning of the opening titles in Superbad, there is fun music very 70s type. Bright colors. And images of shadows of the actors. 70S dance moves, the movement is in time of the dance moves. Prepares the audience for a very funny movie. Gives the audience an idea of the main characters being young males who are very friendly and playful.

Notebook - Romance
Soft music, sunset, and an establishing shot of a wide never ending lake. Sun is going down as if it is the end of the movie, or how the movie is about coming to an end. Lighting is very romantic and it is much dimmed. Gives impression that it is about a romance. Birds flying, birds represent freedom. The freedom to fly. The birds are flying towards a large house... birds taking us to one of the main characters who are hidden behing the windows of the large white house. As the old lady looks out into the distance watching the birds fly it’s as if she wishes she could fly with them.

RESEARCH OF OUR TWO MINUTE FEATURE FILM

Over the weekend i spent hours on hours analysing different opening titles of feature films. a few opening titles which
watched were, the breakup , hes just not that into you, georgie rule, the hangover, the changelling, clueless, pretty in pink, butterly effect and the movie Thirteen. the movie thirteen we chose to help us create our feature film.

The opening of thirteen opens on a black image with music in the background, the first shot is a close up of a young girl in a bedroom, implying that this is the main girl. very documentary approach with greyish bachground, dull and angry colours, very naturalistic. the girl engages into the camera as if she is staring at someone. the second shot is a wide shot of both of the girls. the main girl having blonde hair and her friend having brown hair. this shows clear example of two oppisites. the third shot is a medium close up on the brown head girl and you see how she is smoking drugs. they use lots of shot reverse shots and the camera moves very fast from girl to girl to follow there body emotions.

CONTINUTITY
In fiction, continuity is consistency of the characteristics of persons, plot, objects, places and events seen by the reader or viewer. It is of relevance to several media.

Continuity is particularly a concern in the production of film and television due to the difficulty of rectifying an error in continuity after shooting has wrapped up.

30 DEGREE RULE
The 30° rule is a basic film editing guideline that states the camera should move at least 30° between shots of the same subject. This change of perspective makes the shots different enough to avoid a jump cut. Too much movement around the subject may violate the 180° rule.Following this rule may soften the effect of changing shot distance, such as changing from a medium shot to a close-up.

MATCH ON ACTION
Matching on action refers to a film editing technique where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action and energy. Although the two shots may have actually been shot hours apart from each other, match on action gives the impression of continuous time when watching the edited film. By having a subject begin an action in one shot and carry it through to completion in the next, the editor creates a visual bridge which distracts the viewer from noticing the cut or noticing any slight continuity error between the two shots. for example we had to do this in our preliminary task.

Match on action exits the frame in the first shot and then enters the frame in the subsequent shot. The entrance in the second shot must match the screen direction and motive rhythm of the exit in the first shot.

SHOT REVERSE SHOT
Shot reverse shot is a film technique where in one character is shown looking at another character often off-screen, and then the other character is shown looking "back" at the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in opposite directions, the viewer assumes that they are looking at each other.

Shot reverse shot is a feature of the "classical" Hollywood style of continuity editing, which deemphasizes transitions between shots such that the audience perceives one continuous action that develops linearly, chronologically, and logically. It is in fact an example of an eyeline match

180 DEGREE RULE
The 180° rule is a basic guideline in film making that states that two characters or other elements in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line. The new shot, from the opposite side, is known as a reverse angle.
